Release of Commons Collections 4.0-alpha1 based on RC1

Ad
Thomas Neidhart 1372016453Sun, 23 Jun 2013 19:40:53 +0000 (UTC)
Hi,

I'd like to call a vote for releasing Commons Collections 4.0-alpha1
based on RC1.

The files:

The artifacts are deployed to Nexus:
https://repository.apache.org/content/reposit...

Distribution files:
https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/common...

The tag:
https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/commons/prop...

The site:
http://people.apache.org/builds/commons/colle...

Additional Notes:

o the download page and api links to older releases only work on
the published site and will be corrected after release.

Please take a look at the commons-collections-4.0-alpha1 artifacts and vote!

------------------------------------------------
[ ] +1 release it.
[ ] +0 go ahead; I don't care.
[ ] -0 there are a few minor glitches: ...
[ ] -1 no, do not release it because ...------------------------------------------------

Vote will remain open for at least 72 hours.

Thanks in advance,

Thomas

Hi Thomas,

first of all: Many thanks for your energy you put into this component!
You really did a great job!

Unfortunately, I do not have the time to have a closer look at the API,
so I can only vote based on technical checks of the artifacts.

Build works fine with Java 1.5 and 1.7 on Windows 7, artifacts and site
look good.

One minor point: The README.txt in the source distribution refers to a
collections test framework jar. Is this still correct, AFAICT no such
artifact is produced.

The build JDK seems to be 1.7.0_21. Because of the security issue
related to Javadoc it would be advisable to generate the site with the
latest update.

No blockers, so +1

  commons-collections4-4.0-alpha1-tests.jar

It is just the normal test jar as produced by maven during the
distribution process.

You can create it with target test-jar when using the ant build script.> The build JDK seems to be 1.7.0_21. Because of the security issue

old jdk, but the final site will be created with the patched oracle jdk.

If the RC has to be redone, I suggest waiting for that to be released.> Ah, there was not yet an openjdk update so I produced the site with an

The same applies to most of the javadoc jars hosted on maven central I
guess.

so far there has only been 1 vote (apart from my implicit one) and there
are only a few hours to go.

The issues related to javadoc are non-blocking if I understand it
correctly, but I would even be fine to cut another RC to fix this.

Otoh, due to the lack of interest in this component, it's maybe worthwhile
to think about putting it to rest .... aka dormant status.

sorry for the delay!

I don't have the time to review the RC currently. I hope get some time
tomorrow, but can not promise.

Putting collections into dormant status after you worked so hard for it
doesn't sound right. Just give people some time. Collections is one of the
bigger code bases and it takes some time to do a proper review.

A release vote has to stay open for _at least_ 72 hours, not at most :-)

Benedikt

I've had no bandwidth for this over the last couple of days. I am hoping I
can get to it tonight...

But of course if you have not had enough votes after a week or so (and
it's not holidays) then it might be safe to assume that the vote has
failed.> The issues related to javadoc are non-blocking if I understand it

the Java ecosystem, we have to ensure this is a really good release.

gather feedback from the community. So if there is anything in the API
that you think should be changed, please discuss is separately (unless
its a OMFG we can not release something like that).

And I know that the 72 hours is a minimum, but sometimes people seem to
need a little push ... ;-)

It seems the javadoc has been created with a java version with the
security problem recently patched by Oracle. It should either be
generated using the last version of the javadoc tool or be patched after
generation.
