Just found out that I will be going on software training at last minute cos new software going to be use. Never mind telling me in advance so I can get a lip speaker /interprator or note taker in place in case I dont understand the person who will be trainin us. anyway I was having a convo with a Mac user and he said using mouse far much quicker than keybored (on work we do) and linux types do everything backwards!. I give up but then I thought who going to get RSI sooner ... me or him :-) Fintan

Using a mouse can be faster - it just depends on what you're doing exactly and the nature of software. After all, that's why I use a combination of keyboard/mouse - one can be faster - and sometime there are GUI tools that are faster than their text based or mouse-driven alternative - for example Gnome-Do - it's a GUI, but make use of keyboard and is blazing fast for launching apps or other stuff..On Tue, May 19, 2009 at 5:51 PM, Dafydd Eveleigh wrote: > me thinks you :-) > > On 19 May 2009, at 13:04, Fintan Gaughan wrote: > > > Just found out that I will be going on software training at last > > minute cos new software going to be use. > > Never mind telling me in advance so I can get a lip speaker > > /interprator or note taker in place in case I dont understand the > > person who will be trainin us. > > > > anyway I was having a convo with a Mac user and he said using mouse > > far much quicker than keybored (on work we do) and linux types do > > everything backwards!. > > > > I give up but then I thought who going to get RSI sooner ... me or > > him :-) > > > > > > Fintan > > > > -- > > > > My Blog http://www.finllfixit.co.uk/ > > > > _______________________________________________ > > Deaf-lug mailing list > > Deaf-lug at mailman.lug.org.uk > > https://mailman.lug.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/d... > > > _______________________________________________ > Deaf-lug mailing list > Deaf-lug at mailman.lug.org.uk > https://mailman.lug.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/d... >
Also depends how fast you can type and how well you can remember all the commands. personally I would love to be able to do everything via keyboard, I quite often feel the mouse slows me down!!! I which I could plug myself into a computer and upload the skills I need like they do in the matrix!!!On 19 May 2009, at 22:10, JGJones (Mailing List) wrote: > Using a mouse can be faster - it just depends on what you're doing > exactly and the nature of software. > > After all, that's why I use a combination of keyboard/mouse - one > can be faster - and sometime there are GUI tools that are faster > than their text based or mouse-driven alternative - for example > Gnome-Do - it's a GUI, but make use of keyboard and is blazing fast > for launching apps or other stuff.. > > On Tue, May 19, 2009 at 5:51 PM, Dafydd Eveleigh > wrote: > me thinks you :-) > > On 19 May 2009, at 13:04, Fintan Gaughan wrote: > > > Just found out that I will be going on software training at last > > minute cos new software going to be use. > > _______________________________________________ > Deaf-lug mailing list > Deaf-lug at mailman.lug.org.uk > https://mailman.lug.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/d...
Dear all I do hope you an help. I needed to do a fresh install on my laptop. After the drive was partitioned the laptop stopped reading the disk, which leads me to conclude the optical drive is faulty (It is an old laptop). So I am left with a laptop that I cannot use at the moment!!!! As a work around I know you can install from a USB flash disk. However looking at the forums most of them talk about requiring ubuntu or windows to create a USB boot-up disk, I don't have either. So I tried just copying the files from the installation disk to the USB, needless to say it doesn't work. I do know my laptop will read the USB disk on startup so need to find a way to create a USB installation disk. The only operating system I have at my disposal is an iMac with Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard). Many Thanks in advance Dafydd
another option is to borrow and external dvd/cd player! I haven't had much luck installing ubuntu on a USB drive but that was ages ago. Not fimilar with Appple so I cant help you there. Cant think of any other ideas except installing from a network... Fintan2009/6/10 Dafydd Eveleigh : > Dear all > > I do hope you an help. > > I needed to do a fresh install on my laptop. Hi guys Just to let you know that I used a spare laptop in work to build a USB boot using System --> Administration --> USB Startup Disk Creator. Now installing the updates and everything is hunky dory :-) Thanks for your help guys . The CD player on the laptop which I installed Ubuntu doesn't work. So I used a Laptop in Work and used a Live CD to create a USB Boot which I then used for my home laptop. Cool! I know it will be faster than live CD .. do you find it same speed as hard drive or quicker? About the same as the hard drive.
