https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=... Bug #: 43029 Summary: System won't boot using nouveau and Gainward Phantom adapters Classification: Unclassified Product: xorg Version: unspecified Platform: All OS/Version: Linux (All) Status: NEW Severity: blocker Priority: medium Component: Driver/nouveau AssignedTo: ReportedBy: QAContact: I've been testing with all major linux distros and Gainward GTX560TI/570 Phantom cards. The system hangs during boot if nouveau is enabled (I've bypassed the problem by disabling the driver via grub and the nouveau.modeset=0 option). Other GTX570 cards work fine (tested EVGA and Gigabyte). If there is any data I can provide in order to solve the problem, please contact me.
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=... --- Comment #1 from Adrian 2012-02-22 13:03:17 PST --- I'm also affected by this bug. Videocard: Zotac GTX 570. Using the "nomodeset" flag helped to boot and get to a GUI, but there is still a lot of corruption and resolutions obviousely can't be changed.

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=... --- Comment #6 from Adrian 2012-02-23 01:51:53 PST --- I have uploaded 2 Videos showing what happens when booting. Somtimes it looks like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuPoIIE-g8s When booting, the default Ubuntu boot-sound is played when the GUI should appear. However, the system is completely locked at the end of the Video. The only way to achieve anything is the SysRq key to reboot safely. However, most of the time it looks like this for me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwRM71Q73iY And again, the system is completely locked at this point and the only way out is SysRq.

Better dmesg.txt while running nouveau Managed to get a better dmesg while actually running with nouveau (dmesg through ssh).

Robert Riches changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| | --- Comment #8 from Robert Riches 2012-04-28 22:01:44 PDT --- I have similar symptoms with an Asus ENGTX560 DC/2DI/1GD5 card running Mageia 1 (kernel 2.6.38.8-server-10.mga). According to modinfo, "srcversion: 7FFBFFA368D6517B0115747". During boot with the normal kernel, nouveau said it detected a NVc0 card, 0ce080a1 (if I wrote it down correctly). Then, "fb: conflicting fb hw usage nouveaufb vs VESA VGA - removing generic driver". Then, the machine was locked up so hard sysrq did nothing that I could discern. I had to use the hardware reset button. Using the linux-nonfb GRUB option, which I understand points to a non-framebuffer version of the non-updated kernel/initrd, I saw a nouveau stack trace fly by on the screen, then the same hard lockup. Using the failsafe option, which I understand is a different non-updated kernel/initrd, booting gets farther before locking up, and sysrq is able to reboot the machine. Knoppix 6.4.4 produces a stack trace from drm or nouveau, and sysrq is able to reboot the machine--blindly if I remember correctly. Is there documentation of whether a later (Mageia 2, perhaps) kernel would work with this card?
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=... --- Comment #9 from Robert Riches 2012-05-22 21:30:51 UTC --- Created attachment 61995 --> https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?i... dmesg output from Knoppix 6.7.1 with GTX560 With the Asus ENGTX560 DC/2DI/1GD5 card running Knoppix 6.7.1, booting to runlevel 3, I was able to capture the output of dmesg after attempting to modprobe nouveau. What additional information would be useful in finding the cause and solution to this problem? Thanks.
